Depression can be caused by several different factors. These include your genetics, major life changes, serious illness, grief and loss, conflict, and/or trauma and abuse. The truth is, depression varies in symptoms, severity, and persistence and can look different for each person who struggles with it. It is a complex mind/body illness.
Some but not all of the feelings sufferers may struggle with are irritability, fatigue, anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, numbness, and feeling empty. You may also struggle with an increase in thoughts of self harm or suicide. Depression effects every aspect of your life and can significantly impact your job, school, relationships, and your relationship with yourself.
